As we celebrate Pride this June, I am reminded of the incredible strength, resilience, and beauty of my LGBTQIA+ community. Asheville is a city that thrives on diversity and inclusivity, and it is my unquestioning belief that everyone deserves to live free of fear and full of pride.
This Pride Month I want to reaffirm my commitment to fighting for all of our rights to live, love, and thrive without facing discrimination or prejudice. Asheville’s Queer Umbrella is brimming with creativity, wisdom, and commitment to community. Living with authenticity as a beacon to others whether you are straight, gay, bi, trans, asexual, questioning, or any other identity on the spectrum of LGBTQIA+.
I will continue to work for all people who may feel that their voice has been dismissed or overlooked. Together, we will build a city that embraces everyone and celebrates different perspectives as a great strength. We deserve a city that recognizes our contributions, our struggles, and our victories.
Let your brilliance and beauty shine, Asheville. I am constantly inspired by your courage and willingness to open your heart to your others.
